Nokia X3-02: Review of the touch and type phone

Nokia X3-02

The latest Nokia X3-02 is clearly among the best 2011 mobile phones in the mid-segment order thanks to the compact price (see US, India and Pakistan price here) and touchscreen capabilities. Nokia has ensured competition with the Nokia X3-02’s resistive Touchscreen for the “touch-and-type” lovers. The Nokia X3-02’s US price is approximately $ 214. The Indian price is approximately Rupees 10,217 while for Pakistan the price is approximately Rs. 18,390. I sourced these prices from mobileprices.com.

Nokia X3-02: Full Features and Specifications

There are some interesting features on the latest Nokia X3-02 mobile phone. For instance, I live the “touch and type” interface. Although the phone’s touch capabilities are limited – its resistive touchscreen, how many mobile phones of the middle order can boast of a good interface? Here are the full specs of the Nokia X3-02. (Please note that this site cannot guarantee you that the information presented here are 100% correct).

Here is an overview of the phone and its features.

Network

For a mid-segment market phone that has no GPS, the Nokia X3-02 has cut some commissions with a 2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 3G Network: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100. The two features would be two defining factors that would ensure strong competition to Vodafone and Airtel since the trio launched 3G services recently this month.

Size

The dimensions of the phone are 106.2 x 48.4 x 9.6 mm, 45.3 cc and weigh 77.4 g.

Display

Type: TFT resistive touch-screen, 256K colors

Size: 240 x 320 pixels, 2.4 inches

Sound

Alert types: Vibration, MP3 ringtones
Loudspeaker: Yes
3.5mm jack: Yes

Dedicated music key

Memory

Phonebook: Yes
Photocall
Call records: Yes

I am not sure why a phone that boasts of 3G yet lacks GPS would come with a miserly 50 MB of Internal storage! Although the memory is ‘expandable’ with a microSD and up to 32 GB, 3G users normally do not have patience with small internal memory storage. Unless the phone is question happens to be Dell Pro Venue, nobody would care to tolerate the inconvenience of memory cards!

Internal: 50 MB user available
Card slot: microSD, up to 32GB

Data

GPRS: Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
EDGE: Class 10, 236.8 kbps
3G: HSDPA, 10.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 2 Mbps
WLAN: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth: Yes, v2.1 with A2DP
Infrared port: No
USB: Yes: v2.0 microUSB, USB On-the-go support

Camera

One of my favorite features is the camera. The Nokia X3-02 is offering a hefty 5 Mega Pixle primary camera – bigger pixels than most middle order mobile phones in the market today. The phone camera market is already saturated but with Nokia’s brand name, the 5MP camera will have the photo lovers flocking to the counter. The standard 2 MP phones will have a hard time keeping up as the latest Nokia has come up with two important user-demands – touch and type and the camera.

Primary: 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels
Video: Yes, VGA@15fps
Secondary: No

General Features

Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email, IM
Browser: WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML
Radio: Stereo FM radio with RDS
Games: Yes + downloadable
Colors: White Silver, Dark Metal, Petrol Blue, Pink, Lilac
GPS: No
Java: Yes, MIDP 2.1

Nokia also kept in mind the Facebook and Twitter hype:
- Facebook, Twitter
- XviD/MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player
- MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ player
- Flash Lite v3.0
- Organizer
- Voice memo
- Predictive text input

Battery (standard)

Standard battery, Li-Ion 860 mAh (BL-4S)
Stand-by: Up to 408 h (2G) / Up to 408 h (3G)
Talk time: Up to 5 h 20 min (2G) / Up to 3 h 30 min (3G)
Music play: Up to 28 h

By any standards of middle-order mobile phones, the Nokia X3-02 outdoes all the other phones in middle segment market. In terms of features and optimization, the comparatively compact price considering its loaded features I will certainly choose this phone. Not only can the cash in my wallet fit the phone, the latest Nokia model also gives me some optimized features that are found normally in bigger-segment phones.

Price:

Nokia X3-02 US price: approximately $ 214.
Nokia X3-02 India price: approximately Rupees 10,217
Pakistan X3-02 Pakistan price: approximately Rs. 18,390

The only UC Browser version that works on Samsung Wave 525 (Bada OS)

It's been about 4 years since the Samsung Wave 525 was launched. When it came out in 2010, it was one of the best mid-segment "smartphones" that hit the market. How many momentous, technologically-superior smartphones have come and gone since the Bada OS Wave?  The 525 must now feel like a dinosaur - and it is. In terms of its web browser, the most troublesome dinosaur ever. Prior to using the Samsung Wave, I'd used several other phones and none gave me any problem when using the internet as did the 525.  Browsing experience had never been so much a problem unlike the one the 525 gave me since i bought it three years ago. The various versions of UC Browser , a nifty little mobile browser that was touted to be the "fastest browser" for mobile phones that time, was the choice of wave 525 users. The only problem? In a world where every app and gadget was either android or windows, none worked for Bada OS (Samsung's own operating system). The Sams...

Overview of Sony Ericsson W995: The Little Walkman

The Sony Ericsson w995 Walkman is a relic from the glorious collaboration of Sony Corp and Ericsson. Yet, the  'Walkman' slider phone, released in 2009, remains one of the most popular mobile phones in the market today. An overview of the phone will give us amble reasons why even mobile phone reviewers still cannot beat the little device down, even in this age of the Xperias and the iPhones. Here is an overview of the  main features and specifications of this hardy little Sony Ericsson flagship phone. Overview: The Sony Ericsson w995 is a "Walkman" Slider phone. When it was released in 2009, the device offered probably three of then-biggest features to mobile phone users - a then-unheard of 8.1 Megapixel camera, 8GB Memory Card and 3G - one of the first pre-3G era phones that came with a 3G network band. My guess on the reasons for the phone's popularity is users' relentless hunger for big MP cameras. Only high-ends such as the Xperias, the Nokia Lumias and...
