New Mobiles: New Samsung, Micromax, Intext, Vivo and Karbonn smartphones cash in

Riding on the upcoming festive season boom in smartphone and mobile products and new product launches, mobile handset shipments are likely to surpass the 75-million-a-quarter mark for the first time in the third quarter of 2016, a report said on Wednesday.

According to market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR), a total of 65.9 million handsets were shipped during the second quarter, of which 56.5 per cent where feature phones. 

Samsung, Micromax and Intex, respectively, lead the market in overall feature phones and smartphones segments. While Karbonn is at fourth spot, Reliance's LYF brand is now at fifth spot within smartphones. 

"Now onwards, we are going to see a clear demarcation between new customer acquisition and the refresh among existing users of the phones," said Faisal Kawoosa, Lead Analyst, Telecoms, CMR, in a statement. 

Transsion Holding's brand, itel, garnered close to two per cent market share in the feature phones category in its first quarter of operations, holding sixth rank.


Samsung launches Tizen OS-based Z2 smartphone for Rs 4,590

With the aim to cater to the consumers seeking low-price smartphones, south Korean Samsung on Tuesday launched its lightweight Tizen OS-based new device Z2 in India.

The 4G-enabled, Dual-SIM Z2 comes loaded with a 4-inch WVGA display, 1,500mAh battery, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard memory (expandable up to 128GB) and VoLTE support.
Powered by 1.5 Ghz Quad core processor, the Z2 is priced at Rs 4,590 and will be available at all offline stores and online partner Paytm from August 29.

The device, available in black, gold and wine red colours, comes with a 5MP primary camera with LED flash and a VGA front shooter with beauty face and wide selfie features.
"Samsung Z2 makes 4G accessible and relevant to the unique needs of the feature phone users and the first-time smartphone buyers. It brings consumers fast and affordable mobile internet experience that will democratise 4G usage in the country," Manu Sharma, Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India Electronics, told reporters here.

The device has Samsung's ultra power, ultra data saving mode, S-bike mode and a new "My Money Transfer" feature for internet-free mobike banking.

Samsung has partnered with Reliance Jio to offer on-the-go services and experiences. The customers can get access to premium services like My Jio, Jio on Demand for movies and TV shows and Jio Beats for HD songs in 20 languages.

Samsung also said that it plans to make a 100 per cent connected ecosystem in the next five years in the country.


Vivo launches 4G VoLTE-enabled smartphone in India

Chinese smartphone company Vivo on Wednesday launched a new 4G VoLTE-enabled smartphone in India at Rs 7,490.

Y21L features 4.5-inch FWVGA display with a resolution of 854x480 pixels and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired up with 1GB RAM.

The device has 16GB of internal memory, expandable up to 128GB via micro-SD card and runs on Funtouch OS 2.5 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system and houses 2,000mAh battery.

"With this device, we reassure our commitment to offer quality products to our valued customers," said Vivek Zhang, CMO, Vivo India, in a statement.

The device is equipped with 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and has features like palm and voice capture. 

Karbonn brings 3D video viewing on new smartphone

Domestic smartphone maker Karbonn Mobiles on Wednesday launched K9 Viraat smartphone at Rs 4,799 that comes with an in-built 3D feature to give users enhanced video experience.

The 5.5-inch smartphone is powered by 1.3Ghz quad-core processor paired up with 1GB of RAM and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

The device has 8GB internal memory which is expandable up to 64GB via micro-SD card and houses 2,800mAh battery

The smartphone sports 5MP auto-focus rear camera with dual LED flash and a 3.2MP front camera. 

Jio Preview Offer now on Micromax, Yu, TCL and Alcatel 4G smartphones

Domestic smartphone maker Micromax and its owned subsidiary YU Televentures, along with TCL and Alcatel, have partnered with Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited to make the Jio Preview Offer available on their 4G smartphones.

As part of the offer, customers can enjoy unlimited access to Jio services for 90 days from the activation of Jio SIM.

Jio's 4G-LTE services include unlimited HD voice calls and video calls, unlimited SMS, unlimited high-speed data and a host of Jio Premium apps such as JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity and JioMoney.

Consumers buying 4G smartphones of the brands mentioned above can avail the Jio Preview Offer at all Reliance Digital stores including Digital Xpress and Digital Xpress Mini.
