Google-owned Motorola has launched its new
android Smartphone, the Moto E, as a follow-up to the hugely popular Moto G.
Boasting a 4.3-inch display, the new mid-high-segment ‘budget’ android Smartphone
runs on 4.4 KitKat OS and comes at $129 (without carrier contract, see UK and
India price below).
For starters, the Smartphone is decent on functionality
like its popular predecessor Moto G, and is big on storage here. The E boasts
of a huge 4GB internal storage, and – if you are a data junkie – a MicroSD bit
that can support 32GB expandable memory.
In terms of imaging functionality, I would
not really advise you to be optimistic. The Moto E’s camera is not so much to
celebrate about if you insist on sharp selfies. The device has only a 5-mega
pixel rear camera, but that is more than a decent set of megapixels if you
compare it to phones like the older Samsung Wave series, for example. The
Samsung Wave suffered from nothing more than 2-3 megapixels.
That was seriously sad. Thankfully, the
Moto E might appease you a bit with its 5-MP which of course would provide you
with sharper images thanks to the devices dual lens functionality.

In terms of pluck, the Qualcomm
Snapdragon 200 (with 1.2GHz dual-core A7 CPU Adreno 302 400MHz single-core GPU)
will snap faster than any other phone in the E’s segment. For dual-SIM addicts,
yes, the device has that for you.
In addition, the Moto E has FM Radio, which
of course is not anything new but if your coverage includes a passion for free
music, you won’t complain. You will need to buy a separate headset first,
though, for the FM to work.
The new device also has a decent juice pack
as well. The Moto E comes with a 1980 mAh battery that would give you much longer
backup than most mid-segment smart phones if you just so happened to pack in all
your 32 GB storage with music and videos. With that juice, you can use the
device all you want without running the battery to the ground after just a few songs
like some phones do.
Further, if you are a fussy color picker, you
can have your pick of interchangeable backs that are of various colors. The “Motorola
Shells”, as the backs are called, come in about 20 color and designs.
Price: The Moto E ($179) is cheaper than
the Moto G by at least $ 50. You can get a good deal on the new Smartphone from Amazon and Flipkart, though.
For buyers in India, you better book now here at Flipkart, where the first consignment is to come.
